FAQ

Costs of Selling a Home in Los Angeles

How much does it cost to sell a house in Los Angeles?

Most sellers pay broker compensation, escrow and title fees, transfer taxes and some prep or repair costs. Inside the City of Los Angeles, transfer taxes alone are 0.56% of the price for most homes ($4.50 per $1,000 to the city plus $1.10 per $1,000 to LA County), before any Measure ULA tax.

What is the Measure ULA "mansion tax"?

Measure ULA is an extra City of Los Angeles transfer tax on high-priced sales. For sales closing on or after July 1, 2026, it's 4% of the full price for sales over $5.4 million and 5.5% for sales of $10.9 million or more. The thresholds adjust each July, and the tax applies only inside City of LA limits.

Are San Fernando Valley neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles?

Yes. Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Encino, Valley Glen, Valley Village, Toluca Lake, Woodland Hills, Granada Hills and most other Valley neighborhoods are in the City of LA. Burbank, Glendale, Calabasas, San Fernando and Hidden Hills are separate cities with their own rules.
